Inspired by the vibrant energy and improvisational genius of jazz legend Rahsaan Roland Kirk, the Kirk sofa bed, designed by Karim Rashid, renowned for his “sensual minimalism” style, features fluid, organic forms. An iconic example of the sideway sleeping concept, it embodies Rashid’s research into modularity and spatial versatility. In this crosswise sofa bed, futuristic aesthetics meet extreme functionality: moving away from traditional structures, Rashid uses curved lines and full volumes, eliminating rigid angles for enhanced visual and tactile comfort. A special variant features contrasting piping, a subtle yet striking detail that evokes the unexpected notes and syncopated rhythms of a jazz performance, moments that capture the eye and delight the senses. Just as jazz thrives on both structure and improvisation, Kirk balances refined elegance with playful accents. The Lampolet sideway mechanism allows the seat to transform into a bed without encroaching on the centre of the room, making it ideal for modern, fluid living spaces. The cover is fully removable and washable according to the chosen fabric. To ensure ease of transport, Kirk is delivered disassembled.
